One thing I will never do...
As the end of my college career quickly approaches, I am planning for the next step in the game: finding a job. I must have sent a cover letter and resume to over 200 places already and have made a little progress. The issue is, is that I am planning on moving to South Florida and I have a lot of family down there to help me get adjusted to the area, visit for interviews, etc. I visited in early April and went for a few interviews at some private beach clubs that are similar to the one I work at up here now. After I came back I had a few, what I though were, very promising leads with people who seemed very sincere and interested in adding me to their team. That impression changed as the weeks went by after coming back. With this situation and with others it blows my mind and is one of the most frustrating things to me that people will ignore phone calls and emails. In this age we live in most people wont go 5 minutes without knowing they have an email, message, or call. One thing that I know that I will never do is not get back to people or worse, ignore them. Even if the answer is something that needs to be looked into, or isn't urgent at the time, it takes 30 seconds to write an email and say :"hey look, I got your email and I really don't know, let me get back to you in a few days?". This quick 30, less than, 15 second email is something that will keep me from wanting to put my head through wall waiting on a response. I guess everyone has their quirks, and maybe this is mine, but I know one thing for sure, and its that I will always get back to people as if they were standing in front of me.

I agree with you. I think that it is so frustrating when people don't return your phone calls,texts, and e-mails. This day and age people have their cell phones attached to them 24/7. So many people have smartphones now and they get their e-mails directly to their phones. If you are going to have a phone with all of the latest gadgets then you should use it the right way. You are paying 30 extra dollars a month for the internet and e-mail service..use it!
ReplyDeleteI couldn't agree more with you on this. In this day and age where everyone has iPhone's or Blackberry's or any type of smart phone, there is no excuse to just be ignored like that. Its rude and disrespectful. It literally takes no time at all to return a phone call or write a brief email even if it is to say "hi im just calling to return your call". I wish people had more common sense and intelligence when it comes to things like this!
ReplyDeleteOk, I'm guilty of this. I know it's awful and I've been in the position myself waiting to hear back from someone, anyone, about a job lead. However, where I'm in the position to be hiring people now, it is just impossible to get back to everyone who applies for a position. I think it's rude to have someone in for an interview and not respond to them after that kind of interaction but I don't think it's always feasible to respond to everyone who sends in a resume.
ReplyDeleteAlso one of the reasons people are hiring is because there is a void where the opening is and that usually means that people are doing their own work plus the work of the unfilled position and also coordinating the replacement of the unfilled position, sometimes it's a lot to juggle and things just slide through the cracks.
